Fight against crime, corruption government’s priority

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today that the Serbian government's priorities include the fight against the major security challenges - organised crime and corruption.

Giving a lecture to the students of the School of National Defence themed "Homeland Security of the Republic of Serbia ", Dacic pointed out that the fight against crime and corruption is important for citizens, but also for the continuation of Serbia’s European integration.
The First Deputy Prime Minister underlined that the Ministry of the Interior and the police achieved great results last year in combating organised crime, corruption and the illegal drug trade.
He said that the Ministry of the Interior and the police have excellent cooperation in this field with the Ministry of Defence, Serbian Army, the National Security Council and with other security services.
He voiced hope that the security agreement will soon be signed with the EU, which will enable members of the police and army to take part in peacekeeping missions of the EU.
Members of the Serbian police are currently engaged in two UN peacekeeping missions – in Liberia and in Haiti, Dacic said and specified that Serbian police officers were guarding heads of missions on visit to this country.
The First Deputy Prime Minister voiced his hope that members of the Serbian police in EU peacekeeping missions will demonstrate once more that they are adjustable and that they can cope with every situation.
