US gives donation to Criminal Police Directorate

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and US Ambassador to Serbia Mary Warlick signed today the minutes on the delivery of a donation in computer equipment and training worth over $1 million for the needs of the Criminal Police Directorate.

Speaking to the reporters at the Palace of Serbia, Dacic expressed gratitude for the new donation and underlined that good cooperation has been established with relevant US agencies on professional, friendly and good faith bases.

This donation will contribute to even more successful fight against all forms of organised crime, especially drug trafficking, he said and pointed out that the new equipment will enable the establishment of operational database in all units simultaneously, which will provide more efficient and faster work.

Recalling that the Ministry of the Interior is a member of the International Anti-Drug Organisation, Dacic announced that in April members of this ministry will take part in the work of this organisation, whose sponsor is the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

He also recalled that during his visit to the US he reached consensus with DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart on cooperation in the international fight against organised crime, especially drug trafficking.

In April this year a world congress of all structures involved in the fight against narcotics will be held in Mexico, Dacic said.

Warlick commended the work the Serbian police and the results they achieved in the fight against all forms of organised crime and drug trafficking and referred to the cutting of the cocaine smuggling chains, organised by Darko Saric.

She voiced hope that this donation will contribute to even more efficient work of the Criminal Police and stressed that owing to the IT network, all 27 police directorates will be directly linked.
