Serbia achieves highest investment growth in science

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic said today that Serbia this year doubled its investment in science rising to 0.65% of the country’s GDP, making it the biggest increase recorded in this sector in the world this year.

At a gathering “Science for Serbia’s future: balance of previous two and a half years and prospects”, Djelic said that we plan to increase the spending on science to 1% of GDP.
Speaking about the results of the Ministry of Science and Technology, he pointed out that it is very important that investments in scientific and technological infrastructure of Serbia have been secured.
Also important is the fact that we secured extra-budgetary funds of €400 million, said Djelic and added that we are negotiating with the Development Bank of the Council of Europe for an additional €70 million and with the World Bank regarding the project in the amount of €50 million.
The event in the Sava Centre was attended by the Serbian Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic, representatives of the University of Belgrade, Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences (SANU) and directors of scientific institutions.
