More resolute fight against all forms of crime in 2011

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today that the main objective of the Ministry in 2011 is a more resolute fight against all forms of crime.

In a working meeting of representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, in which the topic was the analysis of results achieved in 2010 and the main tasks for 2011, held at the Criminal Police Academy in Zemun, the Minister said that preservation of public peace and order, respect for human rights and freedoms, as well as fighting terrorism and preserving the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country remain the Ministry’s top priorities for 2011.
The Interior Ministry and the police are strong factor in national stability, said Dacic.
More than 100 kg of heroin were seized in Serbia last year, while the efficiency of the police in dealing with corruption cases increased, he stated.
The First Deputy Prime Minister said that it is necessary to continue with reforms so as to create a modern and well-trained police.
We are pleased with the drop in overall crime rates and an increase in the percentage of detecting the most serious crimes, as well as successes made against the illegal drug trade, said Dacic.
As evidence of good police work, Dacic mentioned the steadily increasing citizens' confidence in their work, stating that apart from the Serbian Army and the Serbian Orthodox Church, citizens have the highest level of confidence in police.
The working meeting was also attended by Police Director Milorad Veljovic.
