Labus said at the second regional conference on employment policy and human rights that the unemployment rate fell by 1 percent this year and that GDP growth rose by 8 percent, which he said was good news.
According to him, the government earmarks funds from the budget for those unemployed, but as he noted, their position will be improved only through the opening of new posts and more investment.
The government’s stance is to carry out an active employment policy, Labus pointed out, noting that the government will help the unemployed start small businesses and get additional professional training. The government will also cut taxes to employers who open new jobs, Labus said.
Speaking on large public companies, Labus said that they need to be restructured next year, announcing social programmes for the redundant and additional trainings for new posts.
He said that foreign direct investment in Serbia will amount to $790 million this year, while another $800 million to one billion dollars is expected to come in 2005.
