Opening the first regional “Media Press Summit 2010” at the Continental Hotel, Bradic observed that the state should take part in the creation of conditions for unhindered and quality work of the printed media, without crossing the fine line and meddling in their editorial policy.
When drafting a media strategy, the Ministry of Culture engaged eminent representatives from the media and took into account their suggestions, objections and criticism.
Together we will create a final document of immense importance for the improvement of the media market and the media scene, Bradic noted, adding that the printed media are threatened not only by the conditions caused by the crisis, but also by the emergence of new technologies.
Bradic announced continued support to the Press Council as a self-regulatory body which plays the role of an arbiter in cases of breached professional and ethical norms, and is important in the strengthening and education of media professionals.
Co-financing the media is carried out in line with the transparent processes of public competitions and specifically defined criteria, the most important of them being the quality of public informing, the Minister explained.
He declared that the Ministry of Culture will keep encouraging the further education of media professionals, as well as consumers of media content so that the established system of rules could finally come to life and become accepted as an everyday standard in this professional remit.
The first regional “Media Press Summit 2010” gathered over a hundred managers from Serbian and foreign newspaper and publishing companies, agencies and advertisers who will have an opportunity to discuss the publishing industry and point to new technological, organisational and editorial solutions.
