State loans for 3000 young entrepreneurs

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic said today that the programme for youth entrepreneurship and loans for young people initiated by the Ministry envisages that 3,000 young first-time entrepreneurs will be given state loans, which will create 12,000 new jobs.
Speaking at a debate on youth entrepreneurship and employment problems faced by young people Dinkic said that a programme for awarding scholarships to the best 1,000 students already exists but the government will also try to include the country’s best enterprises and banks in financing the programme, which will increase the amount of scholarship money.
He said that educational reform is necessary as the youth lack professional experience, which is one of the biggest problems when finding employment.
USAID Mission Director to Serbia Michael Harvey said that the Serbian government is implementing a healthy macroeconomic policy and showing clear dedication on Serbia’s road to Europe. Harvey said that despite the global economic crisis, American investors will stay in Serbia and announced cooperation between USAID and the Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sport in opening offices offering entrepreneurial programmes for youth living outside Belgrade.
