Dacic talks to European Commission representatives

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic talked today with European Commission representatives about Serbia’s progress regarding the removal of visa restrictions.

According to a statement issued by the Interior Ministry, the meeting was attended by the head of the European Commission’s expert mission Luigi Soreca, head of the European Commission Delegation to Serbia Josep Lloveras and Head of the department for Serbia at the European Commission's Enlargement Directorate Therese Sobieski.
Dacic informed the European Commission representatives about the work done so far, the legal conditions that have been fulfilled and relevant bills that are currently before parliament.
The Minister told them about the introduction of biometric passports that have six levels of protection and the new security systems which will be installed at all border crossings.
The representatives said that Serbia has made major progress in fulfilling the conditions set out in the road map on visa liberalization but there is still a lot to be done. They praised Serbia’s strategy for the fight against organized crime.
They said that they are willing to support Serbia and offered expert EU help.
The European Commission representatives are in Serbia to assess the progress made so far in implementing the EU guidelines for visa liberalization that were given to Serbia April last year.
The European Commission will present its report this spring, after which a decision concerning the removal of visa restrictions for Serbian citizens is expected.
