Government has ability to maintain stable dinar

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic stated today in Uzice that Serbia has enough capability to maintain a stable dinar throughout 2009.
During a visit to the Seval aluminium rolling mill and copper mill in Sevojno, Djelic said that exporters expect the dinar exchange rate to be stable and the government will make it stable.
We will secure financial means for keeping the exchange rate stable, he said.
Djelic said that the government concluded a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with the aim of maintaining stability of the dinar exchange rate.
He recalled that the government has started negotiations with the European Commision to obtain at least €400 million of macroeconomic support.
Djelic underlined that the government will protect the stability of our economy, which of course means the stability of the dinar.
The funds, to the amount of €1 billion for beneficiary loans, will be accessible in February, he announced.
He said that in the current difficult circumstances exporters may count on incentive funds, adding that subsidized funds will be provided to banks through the Development Fund and in order to make the capital less expensive for domestic enterprises the government will cut interest rates by 3% to 4% for producers.
Djelic stressed that this plan is in no way support for the banks, rather it helps enterprises, adding that the aluminium rolling mill Seval will have a new investment cycle of €24 million and the copper rolling mill Sevojno €10 million.
Djelic said that Uzice is one of the rare areas which have a positive business balance, adding that it is extremely important that those who maintain stability receive support but others who wish to expand and develop business should also be helped.
The aluminium rolling mill, which exports more than 90% of its production, plans to produce nearly 66,000 tonnes this year, which is 7.4% more than last year.
The copper rolling mill plans to produce 32,000 tonnes, 2.5% more than in the previous year.
Djelic, accompanied by Mayor of Uzice Jovan Markovic, met with inventors and innovators from Uzice.
He also held a meeting in the regional chamber of commerce with the 50 most successful business-people from the area, with whom he talked about development in the Zlatibor District, the affects of the global financial crisis on major exporters and the set of measures the government is preparing to deal with the crisis.
Djelic said at the meeting that this year, which is exceptionally difficult, must begin in Serbia with full support for the enterprisers and exporters in the country.
