Serbia successful in fight against organised crime

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today at the Second Ambassadorial Conference that Serbia is successfully fighting crime, particularly organised crime.
Dacic said after the meeting that he had informed the ambassadors about the activities of the Interior Ministry and the arrest of the former KLA members in Presevo suspected of war crimes.
He said that the National Security Council will discuss joint activities related to the fight against organised crime.
He said that in the second half of this year Serbia could get a positive response concerning the country’s inclusion on the Schengen “white list”.
Dacic said that the first of four EU commissions will arrive in Serbia in February, to assess if Serbia has fulfilled the conditions necessary for the removal of visa restrictions.
He said that he will visit the Czech Republic this month and speak with the country’s chief of police.
Dacic said that 207,000 new passports have been issued up until now and appealed to citizens to get new passports as soon as possible in order to avoid overcrowding later.
We plan to do everything to improve the quality of personal documents and to create a single information system for issuing visas to foreign citizens, said the Minister.
He said that Serbia is making every effort to conclude cooperation with the Hague tribunal, adding that the best solution would be that Hague indictees Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic give themselves up.
Cooperation with the Hague tribunal is Serbia’s obligation and at present the entire country is being held hostage because of Mladic and Hadzic, said Dacic, adding that Serbia is fulfilling its obligations to the ICTY and intends to complete the process.
Commenting on the energy crisis created by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Dacic said that this crisis proves that Serbia needs the South Stream gas pipeline.
