Photographic exhibition “Applied Nostalgia” opens

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic and French Ambassador to Belgrade Jean-Francois Terral last night opened the photographic exhibition “Applied Nostalgia”, at the French Cultural Centre.

Djelic said that the exhibition, whose authors are Nebojsa Babic and Vinciane Verguethen, also marks the conclusion of France’s EU presidency.
He said Verguethen and Babic took photographs of Belgrade and Paris, adding that the idea was first initiated last year when photos of Belgrade and Lisbon were exhibited, whilst in six months time there will be another exhibition of photographs of Belgrade and Prague.
In a few years we will have photographs of the capitals of all 27 EU members. In an original way we will show why Europe is a great project, stressed Djelic.
According to him, it was during France’s presidency that the EU’s true perspective on Serbia’s initiative at the UN was determined.
France’s presidency has also helped to reach a solution regarding EULEX, as well as indirect solutions to some issues important for Serbia, such as the unfreezing of the Lisbon Treaty.
Djelic voiced hope that French President Nicolas Sarkozy will visit Belgrade next year as he promised to President Boris Tadic, adding that that would be the first visit of a French president to Serbia since 2001.
Terral said that the concept of the exhibition, namely the juxtaposition of the views of the two photographers, is very interesting.
The exhibition will be opened until January 16 and visitors will be able to see photos inspired by everyday life in the two cities.
The project aims to promote Serbia in the EU, as well as European values and ideas in Serbia and was organised by the Deputy Prime Minister’s cabinet, with the support of the European Movement in Serbia and the French embassy in Belgrade.
It was supported by BS Processor, Epson, Lafarge, Air France and Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Renault.
