Djelic congratulates Institute of Economic Sciences

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic last evening congratulated the Institute of Economic Sciences in Belgrade on its 50th anniversary. The Institute was founded in 1958 by Yugoslav economist and Nobel award nominee Branko Horvat.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the event Djelic said that the joint activities of the Institute and the Ministry of Science are very positive and important for the development of the country.

He said that the government will give financial support to the Institute so that it can work on economic development projects related to EU membership, regional development and energy efficiency.

Representatives of the Institute presented awards to economists who have made valuable contributions to the Institute’s work and made it one of the most highly regarded scientific institutions in the country. Special awards were posthumously presented to Professor Tomislav Popovic and Branko Horvat.

Professors Ljubisa Adamovic, Oskar Kovac, Ljubomir Madzar, Mladjen Kovacevic, Hasan Hanic and Vladan Hamovic received awards for their contributions to the development of the Institute.

The Institute includes a school for postgraduate studies and three years ago the Institute also founded the Belgrade Banking Academy that has become a successful example of cooperation between the public and private sectors.
