EIB loan worth €250m to SMEs

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic said last night in Luxembourg that the European Investment Bank (EIB) will allocate €250 million to SMEs in Serbia.

In a statement to the Tanjug news agency, following a meeting with EIB President Philippe Maystadt, Djelic said that the EIB loan will enable Serbian banks to continue financing good projects under favourable conditions, which is of great importance for the development of the banking system in Serbia.
Djelic added that the EIB will provide a loan worth €540 million for the construction of Corridor 10, of which €240 million will be used to finance the Leskovac-Presevo section and €300 million the Nis-Dimitrovgrad section.
The two sides also agreed to complete negotiations by the end of 2008 regarding a loan worth €50 million for the modernisation of local self-governments and another one worth €70 million for the development of hospitals in Serbia.
Djelic announced that Maystadt will visit Serbia on December 12 and voiced hope that it will improve cooperation between the two sides.
According to Djelic, EIB is of top importance for Serbia’s development, especially regarding infrastructure.
EIB is the largest international financial institution, set up by the EU, and is five times larger than the World Bank.
