European Commission report on Serbia positive

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU integration Bozidar Djelic said today that European Commission Vice-President Jacques Barrot has conveyed to him that the European Commission’s report on Serbia is in essence positive.
In a statement to the news agency Beta, Djelic said that he talked with Barrot at the World Economic Forum on Europe and Central Asia in Istanbul, and informed him about most recent steps taken concerning Serbia’s EU integration process, including the laws adopted last week by the Serbian parliament.
Barrot pledged that recent progress made will be mentioned in the European Commission’s report, said Djelic, adding that Barrot commented on the set of laws adopted yesterday by the Serbian government and said that judicial reform is indeed of key importance for Serbia’s future progress in the EU integration process.
Djelic said that Barrot reiterated that the issuance of biometric passports is a condition for visa liberalisation and expressed satisfaction at the fact that from next week only biometric passports will be issued in Serbia and Serbian consulates abroad.
