Djelic takes part in 1st World Economic Forum in Istanbul

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic is participating in the 1st World Economic Forum (WEF) in Istanbul themed "Europe and Central Asia" from October 30 through November 1.

Djelic will today participate in an interactive panel discussion within the forum “Enlarging the EU”, with particular reference to the failure of the Treaty of Lisbon and the geopolitical and economic effects of EU enlargement as well as the priorities and activities of potential EU candidates.

Djelic will suggest to Klaus Schwab, the WEF founder, that this prestigious meeting is held in Belgrade in 2010.

During his stay in Istanbul Djelic will also meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Nazım Ekren and Turkish Minister for Economy Mehmet Simsek.

Djelic will also meet with European Commission Vice-President Responsible for Justice, Freedom and Security Jacques Barrot and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Thomas Mirow. The WEF gathered international and regional business leaders as well as government representatives from Europe, Turkey, Russia, Central Asia and the Near East.

The main goal of the meeting is to explore the business prospects in the region and to define strategies for alleviating the effects of the global economic crisis through dialogue as a precondition for progress, stability and security in the region.
