Serbian Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic stated that the ecological situation, as well as communication between competent services and the public, will be considerably improved in Pancevo in the upcoming period.
The working group comprises State Secretary at the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning Miladin Avramov, Assistant Minister Ljiljana Stanojevic, Province Secretary for Ecology Slobodan Puzovic, President of the Fund for Environmental Protection Zeljka Jaruka, Director of the Province Fund for Capital Investments Momcilo Milovic, Mayor of Pancevo Vesna Martinovic and member of the City Council for Ecology Vladimir Zelja.
Dulic said that the working group today compared the plans for Pancevo oil refinery, petro chemical and fertilizer factories, and found that the refinery’s activities regarding environmental protection were carried out up to 60%, and cost €64 million to implement.
The petro chemistry plant implemented 80% of its environmental protection activities, but it is still necessary to set aside €2.5 million to overhaul the purification of industrial waste water. The situation in the fertilizers factory is very complicated, since it has been privatised and there is no precise information on the actions taken for preventing air pollution, pointed out the Minister.
Speaking about the Serbian oil industry NIS, he stressed that the new owners will be obliged to provide new technology for the refinery and petro chemistry’s halls before 2012.
The working group will aim to find the best possible solutions for dealing with communal waste, waste water management and providing domestic gas to the town, while at the same time it will coordinate and monitor the amount of air pollution and keep the public informed in this respect, said Dulic.
