Dacic, Pavlopoulos sign agreement on prevention of and fight against crime

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic and Greek Minister of the Interior Prokopis Pavlopoulos signed an agreement on prevention of and fight against crime today in Athens.

After signing the document, Dacic and Pavlopoulos stressed that it will improve cooperation between the two countries police forces in the fight against organised crime.
They also discussed topics such as integrated border management, illegal migrations, cross-border cooperation as well as cooperation in emergency situations.
Dacic stated to the press that the cooperation between the two countries’ ministries has been good so far and added that the agreement will contribute to further improvements.
Serbia also wants to continue and improve cooperation regarding emergency situations, such as fires, floods and other disasters, the Minister pointed out.
He noted that the Serbian government firmly defends its national and state interests, also taking the European integration route. He added that Serbia highly values Greece’s support for EU integration.
The Ministry has prepared all laws necessary for visa liberalisation, beginning with the issuance of the new passport, the Minister said.
We expect that Serbia could appear on the Schengen “white list” during 2009, Dacic stressed.
Pavlopoulos noted that the signed agreement will further improve cooperation between the two ministries. He supported Serbia’s European perspective as well as the placing of Serbia on the Schengen “white list”.
