Poverty profile research competition announced

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic’s team for implementing the Poverty Reduction Strategy, the Serbian Statistics Office and the Ministry of Science and Technological Development are to announce a competition titled “Analysis of Poverty Characteristics in Serbia”.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Prime Minister’s Cabinet, the basic goal of the competition is to support preparation of analysis reports which could provide information on poverty risk factors in Serbia, as well as to advance research work in the country and encourage new researchers to use existing research material.

The general purpose of the project task is a further examination of poverty risk factors in Serbia, while specific aims are determination of correlates in the data/phenomena provided by the Living Standards Measurement Study which does not describe their correlation, and accompanying research that would further explain characteristics of the poverty profile that the aforementioned study does not identify.

Candidates are expected to submit proposed project/research with planned methodology and data sources which will be utilised.

Eligible candidates are independent researchers and/or research teams, researchers or research teams from state institutions, as well as NGOs who do research work. Preference will be given to researchers who are beginning their career.

The proposal must include a CV of the researcher, reference by an institution, organisation or independent expert. The proposal must be submitted by October 15, by email: irena.radinovic@sr.gov.yu.

The planned date for the project is November 1, 2008, the deadline for submitting finished reports is January 15, 2009, and the report will be submitted in Serbian language.

Up to 10 projects will be supported within the framework of the competition whose cost should not exceed €1,500, while total funds available for the entire project are €15,000.
