Details of finances for Corridor 10 decided

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic held a meeting today with Head of the World Bank office for Serbia Simon Gray and teams of the World Bank transport mission.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development, since an agreement was reached earlier in Washington that the first part of a loan by the World Bank to Serbia for the construction of Corridor 10 will be worth some $400 million, it was stated at the meeting that $250 million is intended for constructing the Leskovac-Presevo section, and the rest for the Nis-Dimitrovgrad section.

The World Bank recommends that work should begin directly on initiating the procedure for calling a prequalification tender for a contractor so that works may begin at the start of the next construction season.

Funds for constructing Corridor 10 will be available to contractors from 2009.

The Deputy Prime Minister’s Cabinet, on the basis of a decision by the National Council for Infrastructure, has proposed a national plan for construction of road and railway infrastructure in Serbia.

This step has completed the entire financial construct for Corridor 10, which is, among others, a result of meetings held to date between Minister Dinkic and representatives of international financial institutions.

Considering the fact that construction of Corridor 10 is a priority for Serbia, it is expected that the proposal will be adopted at the Serbian government’s session tomorrow, concludes the statement.
