Djelic meets Nobel Prize winner Robert Grubbs

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technology Bozidar Djelic attended last night the lecture which Nobel Prize winner in chemistry Robert Grubbs held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Following Grubbs’ lecture, Djelic said that in the past three weeks two Nobel Prize winners visited Serbia and recalled that before Grubbs, Belgrade hosted Nobel Prize winner in physics Jerome Friedman, Professor at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He announced that he and Grubbs will discuss official cooperation with the renowned California Institute of Technology (CALTECH)
Serbia is going to invest much more in science. We are a relatively small country, which is just another reason why we should invest in the only capital we have, and that is people and knowledge. Cooperation with top-notch scientists, such as Professor Grubbs, and top institutions, such as CALTECH, is the right path for our country, said Djelic.
US chemist Robert Grubbs talked last night about the topic for which he received the Nobel Prize in 2005.
Following the lecture, he said that contemporary chemistry is getting quite close to biology.
Having said that the environmental aspect is getting more importance in science, Grubbs said he thinks that this will open many new fields of interest for chemists.
