SAA implementation must be unfrozen as soon as possible

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of EU integration Bozidar Djelic stated last night that the EU must unfreeze the implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) as soon as possible and enable Serbia to make progress.

At the celebration of the Balkan Trust for Democracy’s fifth anniversary, Djelic said it is a fact that Serbia concluded talks on the SAA in record time, but that the signing took quite a long time, and added that the agreement is now not being implemented because one country is opposed to that.
The EU must admit that Serbia has made huge progress on the road to EU membership and enable Serbia to advance further, said Djelic and stressed that all EU officials agree that Serbia is a country of great potential.
Djelic called on the EU to unfreeze the SAA and give Serbia a clear European perspective.
Our goal is simple – to become ready for EU membership by 2012, said the Deputy Prime Minister and emphasised that Serbia is ready to do what it takes to qualify for EU membership.
Djelic said that through cooperation within the CEFTA agreement, Western Balkans countries showed that the region is ready for EU accession.
