Strategic partnership agreement between Serbia, Catalonia

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Technological Development Bozidar Djelic and Catalonian President Jose Montilla reached an agreement today on strategic partnership between Serbia and the Spanish region of Catalonia to be signed in the first half of 2009.
In a statement to the news agency Tanjug, Djelic said the agreement will probably be signed during Montilla’s visit to Serbia, adding that it is very important for Serbia to have links with all strong European regions, and the agreement with Catalonia is the first step in that direction.
According to Djelic, it is important to know that Catalonia represents only 8% of Spain’s population, but is the source of a third of overall imports, which means that it is the most successful region in the country.
Djelic added that Catalonia is one of the four highly industrialised regions in Europe known as the Club Four Motors for Europe.
Djelic also reached agreement today that a delegation of 20 leading firms from Catalonia will visit Serbia in early October in order to look into the possibilities for economic cooperation between Serbia and Catalonia, and visited the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre.
