Dacic, Shoigu visit Russian specialists

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic and Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Sergei Shoigu met today specialists from the Russian state agency EMERCOM who are working on cleaning up cluster bombs from the civilian section of the Car Konstantin Airport in Nis.

Dacic said at the occasion that the presence of the Russian specialist unit in Nis shows the friendly relations between the two countries and nations, adding that there still are bombs in Serbia from the 1999 NATO air attacks.
He said that the Russian specialists are working voluntarily, and expressed gratitude to Russia for valuable help and friendship.
Serbia will never forget those who were with our nation and our country in the hardest moments in its history, said Dacic.
Shoigu said that a plan has been made according to which Russian specialists will be in Serbia until 2012 and will also work on demining the route of the future gas pipeline Southern Stream through Serbia.
This is the second time that we are working in Nis. The first time it was in 1999 and we also set up a hospital for the injured in the conflict in Kosovo, said Shoigu.
Russian specialists have been working on cleaning up the Nis airport from July 31 and until now 16 cluster bombs from 1999 have been found. Bombs, anti-aircraft ammunition and other explosives from the Second World War were also found.
The Russian government allocated $6 million at the beginning of July for the removal of cluster bombs from the airport in Nis.
The Russian team has so far examined 180,000 square metres of the total 704,000 square metres to be inspected.
