Krkobabic meets with UNHCR delegation

Deputy Prime Minister Jovan Krkobabic introduced today the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) delegation with the current problems of refugees from Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Kosovo-Metohija.
Chief of UNHCR Mission in Serbia Lenart Kotsalainen handed over UN High Commissioner Antonio Guterres’s initiative to hold a meeting in order to solve five long-lasting refugee crises, including the one in Serbia. The meeting should be organised in December in Geneva.
The aim of the meeting will be to reach an agreement between Serbia and Croatia concerning specific solutions which will be made in precise time framework as well as to initiate new fund raising for refugee accommodation.
Participants of the meeting reached an agreement that it is necessary to insist on full implementation of the Sarajevo Declaration.
They also agreed that it is necessary to update and start implementing the National strategy for resolving the problems of refugees and IDPs.
Kotsalainen expressed hope that the new Serbian government will approach this issue more seriously as not enough was done in the previous period to solve the problems of refugees and IDPs in the previous period.
Krkobabic supported the initiative for the organisation of the meeting in Geneva and stressed that the Serbian government’s position is concrete and coordinated approach to problem solving.
He also expressed hope that international community, above all UNHCR, will help Serbia in resolving all the problems concerning refugees and IDPs.
