Transitional agreement with EU expected to be unfrozen on September 15

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said that the Transitional Trade Agreement with the EU is expected to be unfrozen on September 15 by EU Foreign Ministers.

After meeting with a delegation of the Portuguese Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Djelic said he is fully assured that what Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Serge Brammertz saw in Belgrade proves that Serbia is cooperating with the ICTY.

He announced he will go on a two-day visit to Brussels on September 15.

Djelic said that three crucial domains of cooperation between the two states are energy efficiency, nanotechnology and food industry.

Serbia can learn a lot from Portugal’s experience as this country managed to double its budget in three years, which is five times larger than Serbia’s, with half of the funds coming from the EU, Djelic said.

He also announced a special agreement on science and technology to be signed with Portugal by the end of the year.

President of the Foundation for Science and Technology at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education João Sentieiro said that his country wants to step up cooperation between Serbian and Portuguese scientists.

We should also sign an agreement on cooperation of scientific communities that should help in the economic, social and cultural development of the two countries, he said.
