Ratification of SAA historical moment for Serbia

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European integration Bozidar Djelic said today that ratification of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU is a historical moment for Serbia as well as for the successful continuation of further European integration.
At a press conference at Serbian parliament, Djelic said that the government sent 12 new laws to parliament for adoption, including the ones enabling Serbia’s admission to the White Schengen List.
He expressed belief that parliament will make up for falling behind with work during September so that by October 2 more reform laws should be passed.
According to him, Serbia has enough time to make new advances in reform clear to the EU, which will be included in the European Commission report and published in November.
That report is very important for further steps in European integration, including candidate status for EU membership, the Deputy Prime Minister explained.
Djelic announced that he will meet with ambassadors of all the EU member states tomorrow, and that they will be informed of all Serbia has done in the domain of reforms that, according to Serbian Government, will lead to unblocking of the Transitional Trade Agreement with Serbia on September 15th.
He expressed regret because the consensus of all parliamentary parties concerning the SAA was not reached.
I expect that now when Serbia kept its promise given by the heads of the state during the visit of Moscow in January, the deadline stipulated by the Agreement will be respected and that all the doubts will disappear by the end of the year, Djelic said.
He added that the social programme and precise investments must be finalised, and expressed belief that the Energy Agreement with Russia is good for Vojvodina as well because it will bring in investments to the refineries in Pancevo and Novi Sad, as well as the underground gas storage facility in Banatski Dvor in Vojvodina.
