National consensus on EU accession reached

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of EU integration Bozidar Djelic said that the fact that MPs from the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) agreed to vote for the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) means that a national consensus on EU accession has been reached.
Appearing on Radio Television Serbia last night, Djelic said that the fact that MPs from the SRS agreed to vote resembles that which occurred several years ago when there was national consensus on the defence of territorial integrity.
Today we see that national consensus has been reached on Serbia’s EU accession, which is of crucial significance for the country, he reiterated adding that a broad parliamentary consensus strengthens Serbia’s position and sends a signal to foreign investors that Serbia wants to enter the EU, but not at the cost of Kosovo-Metohija.
Djelic recalled that the current diplomatic success is a result of national unity.
First the Constitution, and then resolutions which were adopted by a large majority of votes, helped Serbia to be taken seriously on this issue and to take considerable steps forward, he noted.
Speaking about consultations with the SRS on the introduction of amendments to the Bill on the ratification of the SAA, Djelic stressed that it is acceptable to include the amendment stating that Serbia wants to join Europe, but will never agree to be blackmailed over Kosovo-Metohija.
We know that EU officials keep repeating that as a fact, but this way it will be clearly stated that every Serbian representative will stick to this state policy, he concluded.
