Police treat media representatives as officials

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic stated today that the police intend to protect journalists in Serbia and reiterated that they treat media representatives as officials.
In a statement to the Beta news agency, Dacic voiced regret for the injuries suffered by the agency’s journalists during the conflict between hooligans and the police in central Belgrade and announced that the circumstances of the event will be investigated.
He also announced that it will be determined whether any police members overstepped their authority and noted that the police intend to protect journalists from rioters and find those who attacked journalists in Zajecar and Belgrade.
