Police treat journalists with due respect

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dacic said today that he hopes that those responsible for attacking journalists at protests held over the arrest of Hague indictee Radovan Karadzic will be arrested soon.

In a statement to journalists after a session of the Serbian parliament’s defence and security committee, Dacic said that since he has assumed office, the police have treated journalists as professionals, with due respect.
He said that two persons have been arrested on suspicion of assaulting cameramen from the agency Fonet and TV B92, and police are searching for two other suspects.
Police will not use unnecessary force, but threats to journalists will not be tolerated, said Dacic and called on the media to cooperate with the police in the interest of maintaining order and public safety.
