Djelic said last night that the news of Stojan Zupljanin’s arrest was assessed positively by Brussels and that this, combined with full cooperation with the Hague tribunal, could lead to implementation of the transitional agreement with the EU in the very near future and accelerate Serbia’s progress towards full EU membership.
Djelic conveyed Serbia’s stance regarding the EULEX mission to EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Javier Solana, and said that Belgrade cannot accept a mission which is not status-neutral, particularly a mission which is not legitimate according to Security Council Resolution 1244.
The Deputy Prime Minister met with European Parliament’s Rapporteur on EU-Serbia relations Jelko Kacin. Two weeks ago Djelic sought to remove Kacin from office after the Slovene parliament member welcomed the raising of the Kosovo flag in the European Parliament.
We cannot tolerate, Djelic said, that a person who is in charge of monitoring Serbia’s progress and reports to the European Parliament so openly sides with the separatists and supports the so called independent Kosovo.
Djelic also conveyed to top officials in Brussels that Kacin is not acting in keeping with his duties as rapporteur for Serbia.
Djelic held a lecture today at the Conrad Adenauer Foundation, which wrapped up his three day visit to Brussels, during which he met with European commissioners, as well as with
President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pöttering.
