Following a meeting with Vice President of the European Commission Jacques Barrot, he said that two dates are very important for Serbia – July 7 and November 6.
On July 7 a meeting of the International Inter-Resource Group, which deals with visa liberalisation, will be held in Brussels and will look at how far Serbia has come along with reforms of the judiciary, interior affairs and human rights.
The next crucial dates are November 6 and 7, when a ministerial conference of Western Balkan states will be held, at which Jacques Barrot will present his report on implemented reforms. It will then be possible to determine whether visas will be abolished, said Djelic adding that Serbia has several weeks and months to implement the reforms envisaged by the road map it received in May.
Djelic said he believes that the new Serbian parliament and government will be formed soon and that there will be an all party consensus to pass the necessary laws and implement reforms so that by the end of the year Serbian citizens will be able to travel to EU countries without visas.
