Serbia to seek removal of Jelko Kacin from office

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said today that Belgrade will seek to remove the European Parliament’s Rapporteur on EU-Serbia relations Jelko Kacin, since in Belgrade’s opinion he does not have a balanced stance regarding Serbia.

Speaking at an international conference titled, “Ljubljana’s agenda for a new phase in the process of stabilisation and association”, which was held at the Sava Centre, Djelic said that somebody who has so openly sided with the separatists and who does not have a balanced and objective stance, cannot serve in that office.
Commenting on a statement by Kacin that the meeting between European Parliament representatives and the representatives of the Kosovo parliament in Brussels signifies the recognition of the province’s independence since this was the first time that the flag of an independent Kosovo was in the limelight, Djelic said that the Kosovo issue is of utmost importance to Serbia and expressed regret over the fact that some EU functionaries tend to treat it very lightly.
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister said that he is convinced that there are qualified people in the European Parliament who could occupy that position, and underlined that Serbia has the right to request respect for its policy.
Commenting on the hoisting of the Kosovo flag in the European Parliament, Djelic said that scope of jurisdiction of that institution was ignored with that act since it does not have the right to define the EU’s foreign policy. We have the right to request from EU institutions to treat us the same way as they do other countries, Djelic said and underlined that hoisting the Kosovo flag is an undiplomatic and illegal act. According to him, Kosovo-Metohija’s status issue can be solved only in the UN Security Council, and not in the EU.
