Brajovic told news agency Tanjug that this agreement is precious for cultural policy in Serbia and stressed that it will refer to all segments of culture with the exception of the film industry and TV as there are separate agreements for them which have been signed previously.
He pointed out that for the first time Serbian institutions will be able to participate in culture contests whose total budget is €400 million.
The Culture Programme was established by the Decision of the European Parliament and of the EU Council in 2006 and its aim is to strengthen cultural identity, promote cultural cooperation between European countries, encourage the transnational circulation of cultural and artistic works and foster intercultural dialogue.
Contests are held on an annual basis for funding projects in scenic art, music, cultural heritage protection, fine arts, literature and translation.
Both cultural institutions and NGOs are qualified to compete for the funds.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by all EU members as well as Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, EU candidate countries, and Serbia as the first among Western Balkan countries.
