Following a session of the Serbian parliament’s EU Integration Board, Djelic said the two-year halt in that field must be compensated for.
According to Djelic, the heart of European integrations beats in the Serbian parliament and the government needs its support to step up the EU accession process.
He said Serbia needs to accelerate progress in three legislative fields – regarding laws stemming from the Constitutional Law, adoption of a set of economic laws and reforms in the judiciary and police-related laws.
Djelic explained these laws regulate foreigners’ status, the issue of asylum, border management and travel documents needed for Serbia to enter the white Schengen list. He also added he expects the adoption procedure for these laws will be accelerated.
I am certain we will thus use our most precious resource – parliament’s time – in an optimum way, said Djelic.
Speaking about talks on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU, Director of the government’s EU Integration Office Tanja Miscevic stated that the new technical round of talks will be held on July 12 or 13, adding that she expects another round to take place by the end of July.
Our goal is to have the negotiated text of the agreement by end-July in order to initial the agreement by September, said Miscevic.
Djelic submitted the report on the last official round of talks on the SAA to the Serbian parliament’s EU Integration Board, held on June 13 in Brussels.
