Participants in the meeting voiced satisfaction over very good political relations between Serbia and Russia, agreed that the economic cooperation has been expanded and voiced readiness to significantly improve it.
Concrete possibilities for economic cooperation in the field of energy, metallurgy, mechanical construction, glass industry, banking and financial sector were discussed.
Participants in the meeting agreed that the recent activities, such as signing of the
Memorandum on construction of a gas pipeline through Serbia and the
Agreement on regulating the clearing debt are a good example of partnership relations between the two countries.
Poltavchenko said that the position of Russia and President Vladimir Putin concerning the resolution of the future status of Kosovo-Metohija is that the universal principles of international law and sovereignty and territorial integrity of states must be respected.
Poltavchenko said that solution for the future status of Kosovo-Metohija must be sought within the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and that it must be the result of direct negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina.
Kostunica said that Serbia has a unified position concerning the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, which according to the Serbian Constitution is an integral and inalienable part of the Republic of Serbia and underlined that any possible attempt to recognise the province's independence one-sidedly is absolutely unacceptable.
The Serbian Prime Minister said that the solution to the future status of Kosovo-Metohija must be the result of a compromise between Belgrade and Pristina, with the respect for international law and the UN Charter.
Kostunica said that the Serbian government submitted to the UN Secretary-General an
Initiative for starting a new phase of negotiations so that true negotiations, which have not existed so far, could start and a lasting and sustainable solution for the province found.
