Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica stressed today in a meeting with Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Eumelio Caballero Rodriguez that Serbia requested new negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija so as to come to a sustainable and durable solution for the province, with respect of international law principles and the UN Charter.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia is ready to fully take responsibility for new status negotiations and added that only an agreed solution can contribute to the preservation of regional stability.
Kostunica stressed that Kosovo-Metohija cannot be regarded as a unique case and warned that any imposed solution and violation of the UN Charter and violent seizure of Serbian territory would result in far-reaching consequences not only in the region, but in the world as well.
Rodriguez said that the solution for Kosovo should be the result of agreement between Belgrade and Pristina and that Cuba’s principle-based position is that sovereignty and territorial integrity of states must be respected.
The two officials agreed that Serbia and Cuba have traditionally good relations and expressed readiness to further develop economic cooperation, especially in the areas of pharmacy, agriculture and trade.
