Another Russsian runner, Yelena Kozhevnikova, was third with 2:38:14.
The Serbian European silver medallist took the lead in the women's race from the gun, running at a pace which would project a 2:30 finish. But the injury began to show later within the first half of the race, and her pace slowed markedly.
John Maluni of Kenya won the men’s race in 2 hours, 11 minutes, 53 seconds. Nicholas Chelimo, also of Kenya, finished second in 2:11:56, and their countryman John Kioko was third in 2:13:30.
