Vice Premier Hui Liangyu stressed that China’s stance is consistent and clear, adding that his country is devoted to the respect of Resolution 1244.
Hui Liangyu pointed out that China is against an imposed solution to Kosovo-Metohija status and the imposition of deadlines for finding a solution, adding that a compromise resolution must be reached through talks between Belgrade and Pristina.
Only a compromise solution, acceptable for both sides, can preserve peace and stability in the region, he added.
Kostunica stressed that a compromise and sustainable solution for Kosovo-Metohija is attainable and it lies in substantial autonomy for the province within Serbia.
The Serbian Prime Minister emphasised that UN Security Council mission, which is soon to arrive to Serbia, must see for itself the actual state of human rights in the province, which is quite unsatisfactory, having in mind the fact that the return of exiled Serbs has not been organised and that ethnic Albanians exercise terror upon the Serbian population almost on a daily basis, while the property of Serbs is being misappropriated and churches and monasteries destroyed.
He stressed Serbia’s principled support to China’s policy.
The collocutors agreed that Serbia and China have traditionally satisfactory and friendly relations and are willing to strengthen their cooperation.
They paid special attention to the countries’ economic cooperation and stressed the opportunities for improving relations in several areas, such as agriculture, civil engineering, as well as pharmaceutical and metal industries.
Kostunica and Hui Liangyu attended the official signing ceremony of several documents between Serbia and China.
The documents signed are the following: Agreement on Cooperation in Agriculture, Agreement on China’s Non-Refundable Aid to Serbia, Protocol on the Delivery of PCs and Office Equipment on behalf of China and Protocol on Phytosanitary Terms for Exporting Wheat from Serbia to China.
