In an interview with the Tanjug agency, Macut assessed that great results have been achieved in the field of higher education, recalling that good and constructive discussions were held in the first cycle – first with the University of Belgrade, and later with other state universities.
According to him, in the second cycle, talks with deans have begun in order to clarify some of the doubts that exist in the academic community, while the third round of talks began a few days ago and relates to the implementation of the program that regulates the financial operability of universities and faculties themselves (SPIRI).
The Prime Minister, speaking about the problem of the lack of personnel in education, said that work should be done to promote teaching professions that are in danger of becoming scarce, stating that he had already raised this topic in a conversation with deans in order to stimulate student enrollment.
At the same time, Macut pointed out that our country has made the most progress in the region in every sense in terms of European integration.
Approaching Europe is not that simple, Macut assessed and said that, in order to accelerate the European path, he proposed the formation of operational teams, or working groups that would accelerate the dynamics.
Macut also reminded that Serbia has increased the minimum wage twice this year, that public sector wages will increase by 5.1% from 1 January, while pensions have already increased by 12.1%.
Speaking about the projections for next year regarding the increase in living standards, he said that there is a stable basis for a good 2026 without fluctuations, which is good news for citizens.
The government is certainly working to maintain market stability and price control measures are aimed at the citizens themselves, the Prime Minister said, expressing hope that the targeted GDP growth of 3.5% will be achieved next year.
Macut reminded that numerous projects are underway, such as the Morava Corridor and preparations for the railway to the south, to Niš.
He also added that talks are underway with North Macedonia on gas interconnectors, while negotiations are underway with the Government of Republika Srpska on signing a contract to restore the function of the railway between Višegrad and Užice.
The Prime Minister also referred to the Specialised Expo 2027, stating that this event is significant for Serbia, but also for the region as a whole.
