Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the European Union held today the first meeting of the Monitoring Committee on the implementation of the Reform and Growth Facility, a key element of the Western Balkans Growth Plan.
This committee will also monitor the implementation of projects to be financed from the Facility through the Western Balkans Investment Framework, which supports large infrastructure and development projects, such as railway modernisation, energy efficiency and environmental protection.
The meeting was chaired by Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starović and Head of the Unit for Serbia in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement Jiri Plecity.
Starović stressed that the government is committed to EU accession as its strategic foreign policy goal.
The implementation of the activities envisaged by the Reform Agenda is one of the ways in which Serbia is trying to accelerate the process of European integration and thus provide citizens with concrete benefits as soon as possible, the Minister emphasised.
A total of €1.58 billion has been allocated from the Reform and Growth Facility for the Western Balkans to support reforms in Serbia in the period from 2024 to 2027.
Plecity emphasised that the Reform Agenda is not just a technical process, but an instrument for strengthening democracy and the rule of law, protecting media freedoms, and securing better public services, new jobs and an improved standard of living for all citizens of Serbia.
The European Union will continue to support Serbia on this path, together with member states, international financial institutions and civil society, as only by working together can we ensure transparency and real change, Plecity said.
Representatives of the National Convention on the European Union emphasised that they insist on the full and faithful implementation of reforms, with timely information to the public about progress and challenges.
