Mali underlined that works are progressing according to the planned schedule and that the flats will be completed on time, that is, by mid-2026.
He stated that the residential complex in Surčin will comprise 1,500 flats – from one-bedroom to four-bedroom units, ranging in size from 37 to 102 square metres – and added that official Expo participants will start moving into these flats in the second half of next year, in order to prepare their pavilions.
He pointed out that this will be an excellent location for living, with kindergartens, a school and other amenities, theme parks, good rail connections with central Belgrade, Obrenovac, the airport and the Prokop railway station, noting that the flats will be fully furnished and equipped.
The buildings will have seven floors and are part of the largest construction site in this part of Europe, Mali said, adding that a large hotel with approximately 400 rooms is also being built nearby, while after 2028, construction will begin on theme parks, a dolphinarium, an Aquatic Centre and other projects.
The construction site should also be viewed in a broader context, as a place that contributes to the country’s economy and the growth of its construction sector, Mali noted, announcing that a proposal for the Serbia 2028-2035 investment programme and plans for everything that can be achieved inspired by the Expo will soon be presented.
He recalled that 120 countries have so far confirmed their participation in this exhibition, with the number expected to reach 130.
The First Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that everything currently being built as part of preparations for Expo 2027 will remain as a legacy for future generations, stressing that a building permit has also been issued for the construction of the National Football Stadium, thus officially launching the implementation of this capital project.
