Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met with a delegation of the Committee of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly, headed by a member of the Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by CoE Member States Charles Goerens. Kostunica pointed out that one of the Serbian government's top priorities is the country's EU accession.
He said that above all, it is in Serbia's interest to conclude cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, adding that the government is intensively working on solving the case of Ratko Mladic.
He also stressed that when finding a solution to the status of Kosovo-Metohija, international standards and principles must be respected, which implies the respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and state borders.
Kostunica especially pointed out the necessity of preserving regional stability and warned that any imposed solution to the province's status could have serious consequences both in the region and entire Europe.
He stressed that Serbia can serve as an example of a multiethnic society where rights of national minorities are respected and great care dedicated to their position.
