Prime Minister Miloš Vučević tonight solemnly opened the European Water Sports Championship, which will last until 23 June, and on that occasion said that the main goal is for our country to host major sports competitions as often as possible.
At the opening ceremony, Vučević reminded that 51 years ago, Belgrade hosted the World Championships in water sports, and now, half a century later, in the Olympic year, we are hosting the European Championships.
He added that EXPO 2027, which will be held in Belgrade, will be of exceptional importance for our country in every sense, including sports.
Namely, as he explained, a new water sports centre will be built as part of this project so that we can once again host major competitions much faster than now, when we have been waiting for half a century, but also in order to provide our athletes with the best possible conditions.
President of the World Water Sports Federation Husain Al Musallam as well as President of the European Water Sports Federation Antonio Jose Silva spoke at the opening ceremony.
Competitors from more than 40 countries will compete at the European Championships in four disciplines – swimming, artistic swimming, diving and open water swimming.
