Prime Minister Miloš Vučević and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujović visited today in Niš the works on the capital project of constructing a 46-km sewerage network.
As part of the same project, the largest wastewater treatment plant in Serbia will be built, which will meet the needs of 286,000 inhabitants.
Vučević emphasised that this is the largest IPA project, which is being implemented with the support of the European Union, as well as funds from the budget of Serbia, and reiterated that EU membership remains a strategic goal of our country.
The largest project through cooperation with the European Union comes to the city of Niš, to a well-deserved place, and facilitates and improves the quality of life of the people of Niš, the Prime Minister said, adding that the government of Serbia will take care of the balanced development of all parts of Serbia.
Niš is a strategic place for the south and southeast of Serbia, and strengthening Niš is essential for this part of our country, the Prime Minister emphasized, adding that when this project is completed, other problems of interest to citizens can be addressed.
All this, as he pointed out, affects the growth of the gross domestic product, and with that, the possibilities for increasing wages and pensions, for people to live better, for more investment in new projects, and for a better standard of living for citizens.
According to him, in the last 10 years, 10 companies have come to Niš, and work must continue, the fight for new factories must continue, scientific and technological parks and innovative technologies must be developed, universities must be strengthened, and infrastructure must be improved.
The Prime Minister pointed out that much larger investments in environmental protection are ahead of us and that we should be competitive with projects in order to be able to draw funds from certain European funds, while also relying on our own sources.
Niš must develop, truly be an imperial city and a place that not only keeps the people of Niš living there and starting families, but also attracts many other people to Niš because it is a good place to live. The Belgrade-Niš high-speed railway will bring a lot of good, and further towards North Macedonia, and ultimately, towards the final destination, which is Athens, Vučević concluded.
