He pointed out that it is Serbia's duty to appropirately mark the 800th anniversary of the monastery whose construction provided the foundations for the Serbian people's spirituality.
He stressed that Zica is related to crucial historical events in Serbia's history and that it is a cradle of Serbia's culture and tradition.
Bishop Hrizostom of Zica said that during its eight centuries of history, the history of the monastery was turbulent, adding that in 1219 when the Serbian Orthodox Church became independent, the Zica monastery became the seat of the Serbian Archbishopric.
The session concerned the programme for marking the jubilee and the celebration will last two whole years. The beginning of the celebration will be on October 7, the Saint Simon (Stefan Nemanjic) day and the central closing performance will take place on the same day in 2008.
In the course of these two years, a number of events will be organised and the monastery facilities reconstructed.
Participants in the session were also ministers of Religion, Milan Radulovic, Culture Dragan Kojadinovic, Trade, Tourism and Services Bojan Dimitrijevic, Capital Investment Velimir Ilic and Energy and Mining Radomir Naumov, as well as President of the Kraljevo municipality Milos Babic and the sisterhood of the monastery.
