The inaugural session held today at the Serbian government was chaired by Minister of Science and Environmental Protection Aleksandar Popovic.
The statement says that the National council was appointed by the government as the highest expert body that will deal with securing scientific and technological development, quality of scientific-research work, and development of scientific-research activity in Serbia.
The Council is composed of 17 members chosen from among academicians, scientists, university professors and businessmen proposed by the Serbian Union of Institutes, the Conference of Universities, the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Matica Srpska cultural-scientific institution and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
For the purpose of evaluation of quality and efficiency of scientific-research work of institutes, higher education institutions and the centres of exceptional values, the first meeting of the Committee for accreditation of scientific-research organisations was held today.
The Committee for accreditation is an independent expert body that will in its work abide by the principles of professionalism, objectiveness and internationally recognised standards and criteria for scientific-research work.
The Committee has 13 members chosen from among academicians and researchers who hold the title of scientific advisor and university professor.
The Committee will carry out the process of accreditation of scientific-research organisations, establish cooperation with appropriate bodies from the field of higher education, as well as international cooperation in the field of evaluation of scientific-research work with appropriate bodies and institutions in Europe and the world.
With the formation and beginning of work of the National council for scientific and technological development and the Committee for accreditation of scientific-research organisations, the implementation of the Law on scientific-research activity which was adopted on December 8, 2005 has practically begun.
