Prime Minister Ana Brnabic today opened the exhibition "Constitutions of the Principalities of Serbia and the Kingdom of Serbia" in the State Archives of Serbia, which marked the beginning of this year's Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia.
Brnabic emphasised that the celebration of the Statehood Day, as organised this year, was initiated by President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, because he believed that the national holiday should not be just a non-working day with a few ceremonies, but that everyone should be reminded of what is being celebrated.
The Prime Minister pointed out that it is necessary to remember what our identity and our statehood are and to pay tribute to our ancestors, without whom there would be no independent state.
The Prime Minister noted that especially for this occasion, the State Archives exhibited the Constitution of the Principality of Serbia and the Constitution of the Kingdom of Serbia, as well as the first Serbian constitution – the 1835 Sretenje Constitution.
They protect themselves from the time when enemy forces attacked our country with the aim of destroying documents, and thus our identity, she said, adding that the State Archives is the guardian of our identity and history.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the State Archives, as part of every visit of foreign statesmen, displays in the Palace of Serbia all historical documents that tie us to that country and that foreign statesmen should be extremely interested in them.
