Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today at the meeting with Ohio senator George Voinovich that the solution for the future status of Kosovo-Metohija must be based on the essential principal of international law – the inviolability of a state’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia is ready to provide essential autonomy to Kosovo-Metohija within the borders of Serbia, and added that for Kosovo-Metohija it is necessary to find a viable solution based on compromise.
Kostunica stressed that in this process it is necessary to take into account overall stability in the region and added that any imposed solution would have grave consequences on regional stability.
Voinovich said that a solution to the Kosovo-Metohija issue must not be an imposed one, but sought through agreement of both sides. He pointed out that multiethnicity and respect of the human rights of all communities in Kosovo-Metohija must be secured and that cultural heritage in the province protected.
