Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ferenc Somogyi agreed at a meeting today that relations between Serbia and Hungary are very good and that economic relations are constantly improving.
They also agreed that the status of the Hungarian national minority in Vojvodina has considerably improved. Somogyi thanked the Serbian government for all the attention it gave to this issue.
Speaking about the talks on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, Kostunica pointed to the necessity of reaching a compromise solution to this issue and that it should be based on the principles of international law, namely the inviolability of sovereignty and territorial integrity of internationally acknowledged states.
He stressed that it is very important to ensure the stability in the region and added that any imposed solution would have immeasurable consequences.
Ferenc Somogyi said it is necessary to find a just solution for the Kosovo-Metohija issue without disregarding the issue of regional stability. He added that Serbia represents a key factor to the stability of the region.
Somogyi pointed out that it is absolutely essential to ensure the fulfilment of standards in Kosovo-Metohija, decentralisation and respect of basic human rights.
