Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said today at the meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Bernard Bot that in the talks on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija it is necessary to reach a compromise solution based on the principles of international law through direct dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
Kostunica pointed out that the foremost principle of international law is a non-violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and added that Serbia is ready to grant essential autonomy to Kosovo-Metohija inside existing borders.
The Prime Minister warned that an imposed solution must not be an option for the future status of the province, explaining that any one-sided solution would have far-reaching consequences because it would violate the principles based on the foundation of the international system and stability.
Kostunica said that the issue of decentralisation is of great importance for the Serbian community because decentralisation should guarantee Serbs and other non ethnic Albanians greater security, safety and freedom of movement they have been denied.
Bot said that it is necessary to implement essential decentralisation in Kosovo-Metohija in order to protect human rights and provide security guarantees for the Serb community in the province.
